There’s a project on Kickstarter that could offer the ideal solution when storing iPad-related clutter.
Smart Cargo is a plastic storage compartment designed to hold your Apple iPad accessories, such as a stylus pen or the Lightning cable. It’s a simple idea: a small box that sticks onto the back of a compatible iPad case.
Designed by Dotan Saguy, the Smart Cargo has been prototyped and is ready to go into production. The Kickstarter project has been set up in order to raise the money needed to get the Smart Cargo onto the production line and into stores.
So how does it work?
The Smart Cargo has a steel plate in its base. It clings securely onto your iPad as long as you have a compatible magnetic case fitted. The storage box itself can be removed for emptying or cleaning. On the inside, the Smart Cargo is lined with felt to protect the contents from damage. The lining also helps to stop the case from being noisy as the contents move around inside.
Although the Smart Cargo adds a bump at the back of the case, its designer says that it will tuck neatly inside the cover as it’s folded back. The designers also claim that Smart Cargo makes the iPad easier to carry, or could relieve carpal tunnel, although we think those two claims might be a little optimistic.
The Smart Cargo only works with the iPad, and the designer has no plans to make one for the iPad mini since the storage area would be too small. In addition, it doesn’t come in aluminium and it isn’t big enough to hold the charger for the iPad 3 or below – it only has space for a Lightning cable.
Smart Cargo has already reached its $10,000 funding target, and backers still have time to reserve one if they’d like to buy.
